After several years spent releasing CD-R material on a rather confidential scale, HARVEST RAIN collaborated for the very first time with OPN in 2002, giving birth to the band’s first official release, the since deleted MCD “A frost comes with the wind” which featured five superb songs, two of which were mixed by violinist Matt Howden (SIEBEN, ex-SOL INVICTUS), who also played on the songs “Southern cross” and “Wotan wears this winter”.

The name of the band quickly spread around with the great and much appreciated help of fanzines, webzines and specialized magazines which saw the great potential of the record.
Gaining much interest from labels around the world, HARVEST RAIN were then asked to take part in many vinyl and CD compilations.

In 2004 the “Evening and devotion” 7”EP (limited to 300 copies) marked the band’s second work for OPN. The EP featured two songs from the early days as well as two brandnew tracks. That EP definitely imposed HARVEST RAIN as a band with its own sound and style, often dubbed “Samhain folk” or “Scarecrow folk”, due to Jason Thompkins’ interest in ghost legends, strange weather, spectres, Autumn and eerie tales from the folklore of South Carolina.

HARVEST RAIN’s very first official full-length CD, “Night chorus”, is a collection of 15 haunting songs recorded between 1995 and 2005, some of which were done in collaboration with such artists as Axel Franck, of the german band WERKRAUM, who is now considered a member of the band, the amazing painter Tor Lundvall who is famous for his illustration work for SOL INVICTUS and his ethereal compositions as a musician and Amanda Votta, a brilliant Canadian flute player.

HARVEST RAIN found and followed its own path in the so-called “dark folk” scene, a term which was and still is much too restrictive to give a precise idea of the band’s unique songwriting and playing. Haunting loops, eerie keyboards, ghostly whispers, tales told in the swamps and ethereal guitars is what you have to expect while you listen to “Night Chorus”.
